FAQs - Retail Nursery
Can I pick up mail order plants in your retail nursery?
Yes, but only when you purchase the plants through our website, and only after you have received an email notification that your plants are ready for pickup. Pickup orders take 2-4 days to process. You will receive an email once your plants are ready for pickup.
Can you ship retail plants to me in the mail?
In most cases, no. However, if you see a plant in our retail availability (plants marked *RETAIL) that you simply must have, and that plant is in a 1 gallon pot or smaller, feel free to email us. Based on the size and variety of the plant, we will take your request into consideration and get back to you. Increased shipping and handling rates may apply.
Can I purchase retail plants online for pickup later?
Sorry, no, retail plants are only available for purchase in-person from our retail nursery. You are welcome to browse our availability of retail plants here. If you see a retail plant you are interested in, please call or email us, we are happy to hold plants for up to 7 days.

FAQs - Mail Order Plants
What sizes do your mail order plants come in?
Our mail order plants are grown in the following pots. Sizes are approximate:
- 2D: 2.3" x 2.3" wide x 5" deep
- 3D: 3" x 3" wide x 5" deep
- 4D: 3.5" x 3.5" wide x 6" deep
- 3.5" square: 3.5" x 3.5" wide x 4.5" deep
- 1 gallon: 6" round x 7" deep (limited)
Most of our trees are grown in specialized pots that are perforated to provide optimal air circulation, drainage and root growth. We carefully bag the rootball with it's soil before shipping.
We may also ship plants in the sizes above as a bagged rootball with soil.
How will my plants be packaged?
We take great care to wrap and box your plants for safe travel. In most cases we ship your plants in their nursery pots, and in some cases we send the plant and it's and soil-encased root ball secured in a plastic bag. Plants are then individually wrapped in paper (and in some cases are staked) before being secured in the box for travel. We use an assortment of different materials to pack your plants for shipment, many of them recycled/reused, when available.
What should I do once my plants arrive?

How do I know if the plants I want to order are hardy in my zone?
Please thoroughly research each plant and know your zone prior to making a purchase. We cannot guarantee or otherwise honor our plant policy in cases of plants being intentionally pushed beyond their zone limits, or any other improper care and handling.
Information about proper care, plant hardiness and the appropriate zones for each plant can be found individually on each product page.
My plants arrived, why do some of them look bare?
Many of our perennials go dormant during the cold season. Depending on the time of year, you may receive a dormant plant. We typically label them so you know, but if you have any questions, please reach out and ask.
